Joseph “Joe”, “Joey”, “Mitchell” Anthony Mitchell, age 68, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 25, 2017 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire after a 23-year battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his beloved wife Madonna (Jenkins) Mitchell of Nova Scotia, Canada, with whom he recently celebrated his 46th wedding anniversary.
Joe was born December 18, 1948 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Anthony and Mary Mitchell and was an only child. He graduated Rindge Latin Technical School in 1966 and went on to earn an Engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
Joe had 45 years of experience in the automotive industry and was well accomplished and respected by those he worked with. He started his career in 1970 at Boston Volvo and also worked Peter Hallissy Chevrolet in Chelmsford, MA and 1400 Motors in Lowell, MA. His last 25 years were spent at Sunnyside Acura in Nashua, New Hampshire as General Manager and Vice President. He regarded the team at Sunnyside Acura as family and, through his leadership, they achieved many accolades together.
Joe loved helping others and supported numerous causes in and around the Boston area both personally and professionally. He led a prostate cancer support group at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center for 15 years. Joe served as a member of the State of New Hampshire New Motor Vehicle Arbitration Board, representing dealers across the state. He enjoyed many years with the Toastmasters Club. He came to love Cape Cod during his childhood, especially Hyannis, Massachusetts, and continued to be drawn back there throughout his life, more recently sharing that love with his two grandchildren, Jonah and Sydney. He also had fond memories of the many miles driven and time spent with in-laws in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Family was the most important thing to Joe. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren; he cherished his role as grandfather, affectionately known as Grampy. I grew up in Acton Mass, and currently live in New Hampshire.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree In Business Administration, and prior to joining the automobile industry, I worked in Finance and Accounting.
My hobbies are: to travel and have an opportunity to meet people from all over the world and learn a little about their cultures. Traveling was always something I’ve wanted to do since I was very little and has remained a passion of mine. I have had the opportunity to travel various exotic places and have made friends all over the world.
I enjoy working for a company that strives in providing excellent customer service, while providing a superior product.
I grew up in Acton, MA and moved to Nashua about six years ago. I joined Sunnyside Acura in 2003 with this being my first entry in the automotive business. My background is in Accounting, but I enjoy the interaction with customers leading me to join Sunnyside Acura.
I enjoy skiing during the winter and am a Certified Level 3 ski instructor having taught skiing since 1975 while in college. For fun I am in an adult ski race league during the winter, and play some tennis and golf during the spring, summer, and fall.
I have three great kids, although I really can’t call them kids anymore. My older daughter graduated from Holy Cross in 2010 and now lives in Massachusetts with her husband who just completed a four year tour in the Air Force. My younger graduated from Holy Cross in 2013 and works for a non profit organization in Maine. My son lives in Maine and is currently taking college courses.
My focus is to earn your business and make sure that all your needs are being met. In addition, building a long term relationship is important in order to grow the business.
I appreciate the opportunity to meet you and explore how our line of Acura vehicles will meet and exceed your needs.
I started my career with Sunnyside Acura in September of 1989. After 25 years it’s still the interaction with my clients and the innovative, ever-evolving Acura product that keeps me excited and ready to go!
If you were to ask me what I do on my days off, I’d be inclined to say, “As little as possible,” but that would not be the case. You can find me, more often than not, on one of the many great golf courses in a 100 mile radius.
Although this is my first experience in the automotive business, I have a wealth of sales experience in international business from working in Europe and the Gulf.
When not assisting clients I am with my with my wife of 11 years, my daughter and my son. In my spare time I like to go running and play tennis.
If you have questions or need assistance please do not hesitate to give me a call or stop by and see me. I’d be glad to help you.
